NRW.BANK publishes new Sustainability Report

Düsseldorf/Münster, June 14, 2017

NRW.BANK has just published its 2016 Sustainability Report. With its promotion business, its carbon-neutral business operations and a comprehensive range of offerings for its staff and the people in North Rhine-Westphalia, the development bank again supported the ongoing sustainable development of the federal state in 2016.

“As a development bank, we strive to manage and expand our offerings taking into account environmental, social and economic aspects,” says Michael Stölting, member of the Managing Board of NRW.BANK. “The Sustainability Report provides an overview of our sustainable activities and shows how NRW.BANK promotes the good things in the federal state and assists North Rhine-Westphalia in mastering future challenges.”

The Sustainability Report shows the full gamut of the development bank’s sustainable activities. For instance, NRW.BANK was awarded as Germany’s “second best provider of vocational training” in the financial sector in recognition of its efforts to support young people. The Bank’s business operations are carbon neutral and follow the motto “avoiding preferred to offsetting”. NRW.BANK’s Green Bond programme gives investors the opportunity to invest in environmental and climate protection. The projects financed with the EUR 500 million raised by the NRW.BANK.Green Bond 2016 lead to impressive carbon savings of 342,500 t per year. This is the result of the impact analysis conducted by the renowned Wuppertal Institute on behalf of NRW.BANK. In addition, the Green Bond funds are invested in flood management and the promotion of biodiversity.
